In the field of AI in education, we often talk about technical prowess (RAG, fine-tuning, etc.), but too little about the pedagogical processes that emerge when these advances are used in a learning context, and therefore, about how bots teach. A fundamental aspect, often neglected, is to conceive AI beyond simple interactions aimed at answering queries or beyond prompts that generate repetitive exercises.
Redefining AI: From Interaction to conversational pedagogy
At French Lab, we see AI differently—as a real conversation. We model AI so that each learning moment is structured into distinct teaching phases, forming a coherent learning path. Our chatbots offer genuine Socratic dialogue, enriched by various multimedia supports and punctuated by essential practice phases, where the AI provides simulations, corrections, and, more broadly, assessments.
The challenges are increasingly tied to how AI assistants are built, as opposed to standardized bot models, and to the idea of pedagogy taking precedence over technology. AI becomes a vector of conversational pedagogy, enriching every interaction within an educational continuum.
